Kenya’s anti-narcotics police on Friday said they had arrested three foreigners at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on suspicion of trafficking in narcotics.
“Three foreigners, who were on transit to China and India were arrested at JKIA on suspicion of trafficking in narcotics concealed in their rectum,” the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Anti-Narcotics Unit said in a statement.
The detectives said one of the suspects, Msafiri Musa, a Tanzanian had already emitted 69 pellets of narcotics. “All suspects are still under observation,” DCI said.
The detectives said they had made an application at the JKIA Law courts for custodial orders to facilitate completion of the investigations.
The three foreigners were nabbed on Thursday.
Police have mounted operations against drug trafficking and consumption in the past months in efforts to address the menace.
According to police, seizures and arrest statistics show that more Africans are becoming involved in drug trafficking, especially of heroin.
Drug trafficking is a global illicit trade involving the cultivation, manufacture, distribution and sale of substances which are subject to drug prohibition laws.
