A Ukrainian sniper has claimed the world record for a remarkable feat, successfully eliminating a Russian soldier from an astonishing distance of 2.36 miles using a specialized rifle named ‘Lord of the Horizon.’
Reported by Mail Online, the unnamed sniper, serving in Ukraine’s security service (SBU), surpassed the previous record of 2.2 miles set by a Canadian special operations sniper in Iraq back in 2017.
A video released captures the moment the target soldier collapses several seconds following the sniper’s precise shot.
The footage reveals a line of three stationary Russian soldiers, instantly reduced to two as the bullet hits its mark in an undisclosed location.
The SBU stated, “[Our] snipers are redefining global sniping standards, displaying unparalleled proficiency in operating effectively at extraordinary distances.”
The Ukrainian military gave no other details, such as when or where it was filmed, nor did it say how it had confirmed the sniper’s effort.
‘Lord of the Horizon’ was developed and made by MAYAK, a Ukrainian arms manufacturer, and comes in at an enormous 6ft in length, the Firearms Blog reports.
