A 40-year-old man, Kolajo Damilare, has been sentenced to six months in prison by an Ogun State Magistrates’ Court in Isabo Abeokuta for the theft of household items belonging to Razaq Salaudeen. Damilare stole various items including a stabilizer, refrigerator evaporator, “D” irons, and a halogen security lamp. He was also given the option of paying a N150,000 fine.

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) arraigned Damilare on a charge of stealing household appliances in Liberty Estate, Bode Olude, Abeokuta. According to the NSCDC statement, Damilare was apprehended on November 15, 2023, around 11:00 a.m. by NSCDC officers during a routine patrol. He had entered Mr. Razaq Salaudeen’s compound, vandalized the refrigerator, and attempted to steal the mentioned items. He was caught in the act and handed over to NSCDC officers.

Upon investigation and confession, the NSCDC Ogun State Commandant, CC. David Idowu Ojelabi, directed that Damilare be charged promptly. He was presented before Abeokuta Magistrate Court 1 on November 17, 2023, and pleaded guilty to the charge of stealing.

Magistrate E. O Idowu sentenced Damilare to six months imprisonment or a fine of N150,000. The State Commandant reiterated the need for public vigilance and encouraged cooperation with the NSCDC to prevent crime and safeguard the populace and their properties. He urged the public to provide credible information to enhance the protection of national assets and civil defense.
