The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Ondo State has detained Arit Ufara, a 26-year-old woman, on allegations of human trafficking.
Ms. Ufara was apprehended over the weekend for purportedly enticing victims from various parts of the country to Akure, the state capital, under the guise of employment, subjecting them to forced labor.
The spokesperson for the NSCDC Command in the state, Daniel Aidemenbor, confirmed the arrest, stating that the suspect has been handed over to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) for further investigation and prosecution.
“The suspect is allegedly involved in transporting young individuals from Akwa Ibom, Calabar, and neighboring areas to Akure for forced labor purposes,” Aidamenbor stated.
He further noted, “The suspect and three victims, aged 18, 19, and 21, have been transferred to NAPTIP custody for necessary actions.”
