In a tragic incident, a father has been apprehended in connection with the demise of his 12-year-old daughter, Favour Williams.

Favour, a 12-year-old JSS 2 student at Junior Secondary School, Kurmin Tagwaye II, located in Akwanga, the administrative center of Akwanga Local Government Area in Nasarawa State, reportedly passed away under mysterious circumstances while on her father’s farm.

Sources have disclosed that Favour is alleged to have hanged herself on the family’s farm in Kurmin Twagwaye II, along Wamba road, last week Monday.

Mr. Williams Ma’aji, the father of the deceased, is facing allegations of defilement, which were exposed in the wake of this tragic event. Thomas Vincent, the youth leader of Kurmin Tagwaye, verified the incident, stating:

“Only God knows what led to the untimely death of the innocent girl, who was seen around the village on that fateful day she passed away.

The father informed us that late Favour was working on the other side of the farm with her mother. After a while, he saw her coming towards him, and she greeted him before proceeding to another part of the farm, mentioning her intention to pick groundnuts.

The father further stated that after exchanging greetings and seeing his daughter go her way, he assumed she had returned to her mother via another route. However, to his astonishment, while returning home from the farm, he discovered that his daughter had hanged herself. He rushed to cut the rope she had used, but it was too late; she was already lifeless.

Upon arriving at the scene of the incident, we observed where she had allegedly hanged herself. Local youths were incensed and almost took action against her parents. We intervened by alerting the police, who subsequently arrested them. The mother was questioned and later released, while the father remains in custody.”

The body of the late Favour was transported to General Hospital Akwanga for examination and an autopsy, which confirmed the absence of any signs of injury. She has since been laid to rest.

Nansel Ramhan, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, has confirmed the occurrence of this tragedy and assured that the case is currently under investigation
