Emma Coronel, the beauty queen wife of the infamous drug lord El Chapo, is marking her recent release from prison with lively celebrations at Los Angeles nightclubs.
On Wednesday, September 13, Emma Coronel, who is the third spouse of the drug kingpin Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzmán, regained her freedom after serving a two-year sentence for drug trafficking and money laundering.
Initially placed under house arrest, Coronel has now served two-thirds of her sentence. Her release from a California halfway house comes with a four-year period of supervised release, as confirmed by the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
To commemorate her newfound liberty, the beauty queen indulged in the Los Angeles nightlife scene. She attended a special event at a venue known as El Farallon, hosted by her attorney turned singer, Mariel Colón Miró.
Emma Coronel, now 34 years old, entered into matrimony with the cartel leader when she was still a teenager. Her arrest took place in February 2021 at Dulles International Airport. Subsequently, she pled guilty to numerous federal drug-related charges, which included conspiring to distribute heroin, cocaine, methamphetamine, and marijuana. She confessed to assisting her husband in smuggling at least 450 kilograms of cocaine, 90 kilograms of heroin, and nearly 90,000 kilograms of marijuana into the United States.
In November 2021, a US judge sentenced her to three years in prison, of which she completed 31 months.
Before her release, Coronel was transferred from a federal prison in Fort Worth, Texas, to a halfway house facility managed by Residential Reentry Management in Long Beach, California, on May 30, 2023
