Adamawa Police Detain 36-Year-Old Suspect in Alleged Rape of Neighbor’s Wife

Authorities from the Adamawa State Police Command have apprehended a 36-year-old resident of Anguwar Diocese Kala’a in the Hong local government area of the state, Jafaru Adamu, in connection with the alleged rape of a 21-year-old neighbor’s wife.

According to a statement by the command’s spokesperson, SP Sulaiman Nguroje, the suspect took advantage of the absence of the survivor’s husband on August 15 in the afternoon to commit the reprehensible act. During the incident, it was revealed that the suspect was wearing a black face mask and was armed with a knife, which he used to threaten the victim into compliance. Unfortunately, his mask fell off during the act, and he fled the crime scene through a window after being recognized by the survivor.

The survivor’s husband reported the incident to the Divisional Police Headquarters in Kala’a.

CP Afolabi Babatola, the Commissioner of Police, expressed his strong disapproval of the incident and has directed the officer in charge of the Family Support Unit to lead the investigation and ensure a thorough prosecution. The Police Commissioner also extended his sympathies to the survivor’s husband for the unfortunate incident and called on the public to support the command’s efforts to combat all forms of gender-based violence.
