Former Spanish FA Chief, Luis Rubiales, Puts Up £1.2 Million Madrid Residence for Sale Amid Escalating Legal Expenses Linked to Women’s World Cup Kissing Controversy
Luis Rubiales, the embattled former president of the Spanish FA, has reportedly decided to sell his £1.2 million Madrid home due to mounting legal costs stemming from the “kiss-gate” scandal.
Rubiales made headlines when he resigned during an interview with Piers Morgan after enduring weeks of criticism for his actions following the Women’s World Cup final. In the aftermath of Spain’s victory over England in Sydney last month, Rubiales kissed midfielder Jenni Hermoso on the mouth.
However, the 33-year-old footballer later asserted that the kiss was not consensual, leading to a lawsuit against Rubiales for sexual assault and coercion.
Under a sexual consent law passed last year, Rubiales could face a fine or a prison sentence ranging from one to four years if found guilty of sexual assault.
In his interview with Morgan, Rubiales conceded that the kiss was a “mistake” but maintained that there was “no harm, no sexual content, no aggression.”
It now appears that the former Spanish FA chief may be selling his residence to help cover his legal expenses. According to reports from The Sun, Rubiales has put his £1.2 million home in Madrid up for sale.
The two-bedroom property reportedly boasts a swimming pool, underfloor heating, and is situated near Madrid’s city center.
Reports from the Spanish outlet La Vanguardia suggest that Rubiales purchased the duplex just a year ago and invested £1.1 million in its complete renovation.
Already burdened by substantial payments from a previous legal agreement, Rubiales reportedly pays his ex-wife €800 (£689) per month for each of their three daughters, following their separation in 2013.
