The spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, has confirmed that aides to Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the Oba of Elegushi have reached out to the state police command to disassociate themselves from Sam Larry and Naira Marley, who are facing accusations related to the death of singer Mohbad.
After Mohbad’s tragic demise on Tuesday, September 12, photographs of Sam Larry and Naira Marley with the governor and the monarch surfaced on social media.
In a previously submitted petition to the police in June, the late Mohbad had alleged that Sam Larry assaulted him and asserted a connection to Oba Elegushi, implying that he would face no consequences for the assault. However, the monarch has since released a statement clarifying his lack of association with Sam Larry.
On Saturday, September 16, Tonto Dikeh called out Governor Sanwo-Olu via her Instagram page, demanding that he publicly clarify his connection to Sam Larry and Naira Marley, amid reports suggesting that both individuals were associated with the governor.
During an interview with TVC on the morning of September 18, Hundeyin disclosed that the governor has expressed his support for the ongoing investigation. Hundeyin stated, “On Friday, I received a call from one of the Special Advisers to the governor who emphasized that they do not know him (Sam Larry) and disowned any connection to him. Oba Elegushi also called to express that he does not recognize this individual and encouraged us to proceed with our investigation.”
Regarding the police investigation into the death, Hundeyin noted, “We have compiled a list of names of suspects and have commenced the process of locating and gathering information about them. We are also reaching out to individuals for further information.”
