Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, the spokesperson for the Northern Elders Forum (NEF), has officially announced his appointment as the Special Adviser (Political) to Vice President Kashim Shettima of Nigeria.
Dr. Hakeem, who is the elder sibling of Datti Baba-Ahmed, the vice presidential candidate for the Labour Party in the 2023 presidential election, disclosed his new role on X, September 18, emphasizing that it’s a crucial time to actively engage in politics.
In his announcement, Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed stated: “I want to publicly confirm that I have accepted the invitation to serve as a Special Adviser on political matters to VP @KShettim.”
He further remarked: “This is a moment when we cannot afford to sit on the sidelines or merely critique; instead, we can be instrumental in reshaping the nation. I am deeply honored and humbled. Kindly keep me and Nigeria in your prayers.”
It’s worth noting that Baba-Ahmed previously served as the Chief of Staff to Bukola Saraki, the former Senate President, from 2017 to 2019.
This recent appointment has stirred diverse reactions on Twitter. While some offered congratulations, others criticized him for joining the opposition, given his brother’s involvement.
For instance, @IkechukwuEzeh10 commented: “This move is quite controversial, Sir. Aligning with the opposition to your brother after the disputed election.”
