OCEL and LAMATA signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Thursday, April 28, 2022, to facilitate the implementation of an Electric Vehicle (EV) Infrastructure Ecosystem. This ecosystem includes electric buses, charging stations, and other supporting infrastructure, with the goal of achieving a sustainable road transport system in the state.
The initiative aims to decarbonize the transportation system in Nigeria and enhance the socio-economic impact of transportation in the country. It plans to transition the existing combustion mass transit buses to electric over the next seven years, starting in Lagos State and eventually expanding nationwide. The rollout is expected to encompass more than 12,000 buses
