President Muhammadu Buhari, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, state governors, and their deputies have received around N651.2m in hardship allowance in the last eight years, The Punch reported on Friday, May 12, 2023.

The Revenue Mobilisation and Fiscal Allocation Commission’s recommends that the president is entitled to a hardship payment of N1.76 million per year. Accordingly, President Buhari would have received N14,08m in hardship allowance over the course of eight years.

Osinbajo would have received N12.16 million as hardship allowance over the course of eight years as the vice president is entitled to N1.52 million annually.

The annual salary for a state governor is N1.11 million, while the salary for the deputy state governor is N1.06 million. The hardship allowance for the 36 state governors would have amounted to N319.68 million in eight years, while that of their deputies would have been N305.28 million according to the computations.
