Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Tim Sherwood has backed Leeds to stay in the Premier League. Victory at Molineux lifted the Whites – who started the day in 19th – up to 14th.
Sherwood believes Javi Gracia has the credentials to keep the club afloat. He told Premier League Productions: “I believe he’s (Javi Gracia) capable of keeping them in the league.
“ I think he will keep them up like he did with Watford. They don’t score enough. I’ve got faith in this guy. I love Leeds and want to see them here next season.”
Luke Ayling dismissed any complaints from Wolves regarding the VAR controversy during his side’s 4-2 win at Molineux as he opened up on what he labelled a “crazy game” of football.
VAR was called into question on multiple occasions during the game, noticeably after they recommended referee Michael Salisbury upgrade an initial yellow card to a straight sending off for Jonny’s tackle on Ayling; but also after the official refused to change his mind to rule out Rodrigo’s late strike despite being sent to the monitor to check for a foul from Marc Roca in the build-up to the goal.
“It was a crazy game,” Ayling told club media. “We came here last year on the same day and had another crazy game. It was just up and down, we played really well to get 3-0 up and then we just let the game go. We let them back into it, we saw the game out well in the end but we can’t let them two goals in to make it close.
“I don’t care about that (the VAR call). I walk away with three points, I don’t care what happened so I won’t comment on that.”
Julen Lopetegui has claimed that his side “didn’t deserve to lose” as he slammed the officials for failing to give his side a “very clear” penalty and for Jonny’s “unlucky” red card vs Leeds.
“I am with a big frustration because we didn’t deserve to lose this match,” the Wolves boss said after the match. “For a lot of reasons, but this is football and the right thing doesn’t always happen in football. I think we suffered very early and that was the only chance they had in the first half and we had a lot of chances, in a very good first half.
“It’s true that we missed a lot of chances and in the second half, we suffered two goals too easily, and we don’t have to concede these goals because we are working in a good way and we are able to change the score in the second half, but the two goals made it more difficult. It became a crazy match and we scored two goals and again we had a lot of chances to draw the match.”
