The National Senior Citizens Centre (NSCC), says it remains focusd on having an inclusive society where every older person can live a dignified, healthy, and secured life with opportunities to continue participating in what they have value for.

Director General of NSCC, Dr. Emem Omokaro gave the assurance during a high-level engagement with the management of the National Identity Management Commission where she formally presented copies of NSCC Strategic Roadmap on Ageing and National Plan of Action on Ageing and Project Activities.

She reinforced NSCC’s resolve to improve the standard of living of older persons leveraging on the already existing partnership with the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) for age-friendly environment for senior citizens in the country.

Emem, added that as part of NSCC’s mandate to engage in strategic multi-sectoral partnerships and data collection for identifying the needs of older persons, this partnership tends to serve as lead way to actualize the intentions.

The Director General, however pointed out that with the existing relationnship between agencies on Age Friendly Initiative, the production of the senior citizens identity card will be an added advantage to create easy access to transportation, health care, banks, markets and a dignify service delivery.

NSCC DG, said the framework for creating partnership with NIMC is embedded in the NSCC Strategic Roadmap on Ageing 2022-2032 and the National Plan of Action on Ageing in Nigeria and Project Activities 2021–2025.

In his response, the Director General, National Identity management Commission, Engr. Aliyu Aziz Abubakar, said that older persons are an invaluable asset to the nation economy and therefore Nigerians should cultivate the habits on how well senior citizens should be treated.

Engr. Aliyu, said efforts towards the production and issuance of functional Identity cards for Senior Citizens in partnership with the National Senior Citizens Centre is work-in-progress going through due process and other administrative channels.

He applauded Dr. Emem Omokaro for her resilience and for actualizing NSCC Strategic Roadmap on Ageing 2022-2032 and the National Plan of Action on Ageing in Nigeria and Project Activities 2021-2025.
