The Ondo State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has responded to the departure of former Publicity Secretary Banji Okunomo and other party chieftains, stating that their defection has not had a significant impact on the party.
Okunomo cited the ongoing internal crisis within the party as the reason for his resignation on Monday, but promised to disclose his next steps.
In a statement released by Kennedy peretei, the Publicity secretary of the state’s PDP responded to Banji Okunomo’s resignation from the party, he emphasized that the party was not concerned about the development and would not be losing sleep over it.
The statement read, “In the last 18 months, these same characters have moved in and out of the PDP twice, which is a confirmation of their nomadic essence as politicians. Most of them who got promotions beyond their capacities by the PDP have consistently lost their polling units to other political parties during elections.
“They have always been trailed by failure in their opportunistic and self-serving inordinate ambitions that drive their insatiable desire for crumbs from the master’s table. They defected to the Zenith Labour Party but shamelessly returned to PDP after their tragic outing that was a measure of their political relevance.”
Peretei also criticized Okunomo and other defectors, calling them “colourless, inconsequential, serial defectors” and questioning why the party should lose sleep over their departure.
He further suggested that these defectors may be treated as political prostitutes wherever they go, implying that their loyalty is fleeting and unreliable.
He, however, said the PDP wishes them luck, and “any time they wish to come back, our doors are open. Now that they have established that they are political herdsmen.”
