Governor Rotimi Akeredolu has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to end the “endless drift into the abyss of chaos” created amid the naira crunch in the country.

Akeredolu also criticised the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele for the “mischievous implementation” of the naira redesign policy of the apex bank.

Akeredolu, in a statement on Saturday, faulted Buhari’s ban on old N500 and N1,000 notes which he said represent 82% of total currency in circulation.

He also said the ban on N500 and N1,000 notes by the President on Thursday and the extension of the validity of old N200 notes for 60 days was “decreed by presidential fiat”.
