On Friday morning, the All Progressives Congress (APC) unveiled its primary election schedule for the governorship positions in three states, specifically Kogi, Bayelsa, and Imo.🤣
The party cleared the timetable for publication following several sessions with its National Executive Committee and the National Working in Abuja.
Upon closer examination of the recently published primary election timetable on Friday, it appears that there were hardly any differences from the previous schedules used for last year’s primary elections in other states, apart from the dates and locations.
Unlike the presidential primary category, where candidates were required to pay N100 million to obtain the nomination and expression of interest forms, the cost of the governorship form remains at N50 million.
According to the new timetable released and signed by the National Organizing Secretary, Suleiman Argungu, female aspirants and Persons Living with Disabilities (PLWD) who express interest in the governorship race are required to only purchase the expression of interest form for N10 million. The nomination form will be provided to them free of charge.
Meanwhile, young politicians between the ages of 25 to 40 who are vying for the governorship ticket in the primaries are encouraged to purchase the form at a discounted rate of N30 million.
Argungu stated that all candidates interested in the governorship position in their respective states should visit the national headquarters of the APC located in Wuse II, Abuja between February 15th and 22nd to obtain and collect their forms.
He said, “The last day for submission of the completed governorship nomination form, expression of interest and accompanying documents is Wednesday, February 22 and the screening of aspirants will take place from March 24 – 26. The result for the screening will be published on March 28 while screening appeal holds the following day.
“Members to elect delegates will be financial members of the party of not less than three months to the date of the delegate Congress at the rate of N200 per month. The purchase for the delegate form is N5,000.”
In addition to the above, the ruling party has also disclosed that the primary election for the governorship position will take place on Monday, April 10th.
The Congress to validate the results of the Imo and Bayelsa governorship primaries has been scheduled for April 11th, while the primary election appeal process will follow on Wednesday, April 12th.
