A 34-year-old microfinance bank staff, Olatunde Olatimehin, has been arraigned in Lagos for alleged stealing of the bank’s N569,225.

The defendant was arraigned on a two-count charge of stealing from his employer and causing breach of peace.

Olatimehin, a staff of Baobab Microfinance Bank, Ojo, Lagos State, appeared before Magistrate L.J.K. Layeni on Monday in Ojo.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The prosecutor, Dr. Simon Uche, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on February 2 at the bank’s premises.

He alleged that the defendant stole the sum paid by customers to the bank and he received it through his personal account.

The prosecutor said that the defendant’s conduct also caused breach of peace at the bank.

The alleged offences contravene Sections 168 (d) and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The court granted the defendant bail in the sum of N300,000 with two sureties in like sum.

The Magistrate adjourned the case until March 6 for trial.
