Bashir Bashir, the Labour Party(LP) Governorship candidate for Kano State, announced his defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress(APC) on Sunday.
He made the switch after previously declining to attend the Labour Party’s presidential rally held in Kano on January 21, along with other prominent members of the party in the state.
In addition to Bashir Bashir, other notable Labour Party members who declined to attend the rally included Mohammed Zarewa, the state coordinator for Peter Obi’s campaign, Balarabe Wakili, and Idris Dambazau, a member of the presidential campaign council.
According to a confidential source, closest to Bashir as reported by newsmen, Bashir’s defection to the APC was confirmed on Sunday, along with that of other Labour Party leaders in Kano.
The source cited the party’s lack of inclusiveness towards important northern stakeholders in its decision-making process, as well as an unclear direction on the issues concerning northern Nigeria, as factors contributing to the defection.
