The Kano branch of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has announced its public fundraising drive for the gubernatorial campaign of Abba Kabiru Yusuf, also known as “Abba Gida”.
The NNPP held a special dinner to raise funds for their campaign, and announced that they generated over N511 million.
The biggest individual contribution came from Tijani Abdulkadir Jobe, a representative for Tofa/Dawakin-Tofa/Rimin-Gado in the house of representatives, who donated N50 million.
At the event, Abdulrahman Kawu Sumaila, the fundraiser’s Chairman and former presidential aide, spoke about the NNPP’s commitment to their campaign and election process, with support from members.
He dismissed allegations of vote buying and election rigging, saying the funds raised will be used for logistics.
Sumaila emphasized that NNPP members are dedicated to the Kwankwasiyya ideology and not motivated by financial incentives.
He stated that NNPP is determined to win back control of Kano from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the upcoming gubernatorial election next month.
“Election is fast approaching and NNPP is not leaving any stone untold to reclaim Kano. We have gathered as NNPP and Kwankwasiyya family to mobilize resources for the governorship campaign and election,” Sumaila said.
“Now, in less than three hours, we have received public support amounting to over N500 million and we are still counting.
“As you know we are not in government so we don’t have any privilege to government fund and that is why we open this crowdfunding where we solicit support no matter the amount.
The NNPP’s gubernatorial candidate, Abba Kabiru Yusuf, thanked members for their support and donations. He emphasized that NNPP will not fail to deliver on its promises if elected to power.
Yusuf also challenged the ruling party to be transparent about the sources of the vast resources used for their campaign rallies, calling for public scrutiny.
