The Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Lagos State has seen a mass defection of its leadership and some members of the state executive committee to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The defection was led by the SDP’s chairman, Dabiraoluwa Adeyinka.

In a statement, Adeyinka cited the impressive leadership qualities of the PDP’s governorship candidate, Abdulazeez ‘Jandor’ Adediran, and his running mate, Funke Akindele, as the main reason for the move, describing PDP as the “only credible alternative to the current ruling APC government.”

Gbenga Ogunleye, the spokesperson for PDP’s governorship candidate Abdulazeez ‘Jandor’ Adediran, made this known on Monday.

Adediran, the current Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Gbadebo Rhode-Vivour of the Labour Party, and 15 others will be contesting for the governorship seat on February 25th.

Upon receiving the delegation of defectors at his campaign office, Adediran welcomed them and stated that they had taken a wise decision at the right time. He also announced the appointment of Dabiraoluwa Adeyinka as one of the spokespersons for his campaign council.

The Lagos PDP chairman, Philip Aivoji, presented the party’s flag to the group of defectors and assured them that they would not experience any discrimination within the party when the PDP forms the government on May 29, 2023.

“We want to assure you that once you join the PDP, you have become a bonafide member and you are entitled to all rights and privileges enjoyed by those you met in the party. You are free to participate in party activities at the units, wards, local governments, and the state level,” said Philip Aivoji.
