Security operatives are stepping up efforts to wipe out illegal Bureau-De-Change (BDC) operators and hideouts of drug addicts in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
On Monday, the task force of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCDA), raided the Wuse Zone 4 area of the FCT making several arrests.
Director, Monitoring, Inspection and Enforcement, FCTA Task Force, Attah Ikharo, made it clear that with the operators unwilling to embrace legal mode of operations, his team was left with no other option but to continue enforcing the law.
Ikharo, who noted that the FCT Minister, Malam Muhammed Bello, wanted residents to succeed at their various businesses and enterprises, explained that reports from the intelligence unit of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) worried the authorities, and added that if they did not obey the law, relevant forces might have to be engaged to ensure the sanitising of the industry.
He explained that the task force is also tackling the high incidence of drug abuse in the area, which saw it raid some red light zones within the Central Business District, burning down places suspected to be illicit and illegal drug colonies.
Ikharo said, “We had to address the issue of insecurity by removing all the shanties around the Bolingo Hotel and the Churchgate buildings.”
