Unknown gunmen on Thursday attacked a police convoy, killed four policemen, kidnapped a man, and stole an undisclosed sum of money in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
Around 3 o’clock, the gunmen reportedly opened fire at passing automobiles from atop the recently built Rumuokoro Flyover in the state’s Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.
It was discovered that the thieves had arrived early, hung around for their victims, and carried out their operations successfully without any resistance.
An eyewitness claimed that the incident generated panic and that the criminals, after killing four police officers in the convoy, absconded with the yet-to-be-identified individual for whom the policemen were providing security.
He said: “This afternoon, around 3 pm we heard gunshots on top of the flyover. We earlier thought it was security men that were shooting because they were in military uniform.
“The shooting continued while cars that were at the foot of the flyover have to stop. The boys killed four policemen that were escorting a big man.
“They carried money from that convoy and kidnapped the big man. After that, they entered their car and drove off.
Three policemen were involved in the attack, according to the State Police Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko, who also noted that there were few details available.
