An American journalist named Grant Wahl was detained on Monday, November 21, for supporting the LGBTQ community by donning a rainbow-themed shirt.

The US-Wales 2022 World Cup game was played on Monday, and Sports Illustrated journalist Grant Wahl, who also maintains a soccer Substack, claimed via his verified handle that he was turned away from the stadium because of his shirt.

After his resistance, he was held for more than an hour before being taken to the media center.

Wahl’s shirt had an illustration of a rainbow, which is the pride color for the LGBTQ population.

Later in the day, Wahl tweeted an update, saying he was “OK, but that was an unnecessary ordeal.

“Am in the media center, still wearing my shirt. Was detained for nearly half an hour. Go gays,” Wahl wrote
