Jordanian teams on Wednesday rescued a baby girl and are still making great efforts to rescue others from under the rubble of a collapsed building, while officials said that the authorities arrested 3 people in connection with the disaster.
A video published by the Jordanian Civil Defence Department on its Twitter account showed the moment the girl was pulled out of the rubble. The video was captioned, “Moments which will never be erased from our memories, and the image of the four-month-old angel will remain an icon of hope and life.”
Official media reported that at least 9 people were killed, while others were still missing, due to the collapse of a 4-storey apartment building in the Weibdeh area in the centre of the Jordanian capital, Amman.
Jordanian Public Prosecutor Hassan Al Abdallat told the Jordan News Agency, Petra, on Wednesday evening that “Amman’s Public Prosecutor decided to arrest 3 people in connection with the building collapse case.”
He added, “The suspects have been charged with the crimes of causing death and harm, and that a technical committee will be formed to determine the cause of the collapse and accurately identify those responsible.”
The official media identified the suspects as: one of the heirs of the building owner, “the supervisor”, the maintenance contractor and the maintenance technician.
