The presidential candidate of the Labour Party for the 2023 presidential election, Peter Obi, has complained about the introduction of ethnicity into the campaign for the polls.
The former two-term Anambra State Governor said this when he hosted a group in a video that has now gone viral.
Obi said he received a WhatsApp message said to have been sent round by a group working for the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
He then asked one of those present to read it.
It said: “Yoruba shine your eyes o.
“If you vote for Peter Obi, it is automatically voting for seaport in South South and South East.
“The Ibos will stop coming to Lagos to invest.
“Rather they would go to Delta and Rivers States.
“They may even stop building houses in Lagos.
“It will after a lot of Yorubas.
“Yoruba ro’nu o (Yoruba think deeply).”
Obi then said: “This is your president.
“They don’t see the value of let’s have something better.
“He brings all the confusion.
“And that’s it.”
Pointing at someone beside him, Obi added: “You support him.
“When he comes here now and give you money, you say Jagaban (Tinubu’s traditional title) is the best candidate even when the man is not well.
“That’s the problem of the country.
“Somebody said to me, this candidate, they were the people who fought (late General Sani) Abacha to a stand still.
“That he even lost everything.
“I said, but he has two planes now.
“Where is his company?
“My brother, we are in a crisis.
“That’s why I’m pleading to all of us, let us go and take back our country and run it like any other country where the leader is responsible to the people.
“The people can question the rascality and the behaviour of their leader.
“Bad behaviour has become a measure of success in our system.”
