Nigeria’s Chioma Onyekwere on Tuesday night increased the country’s gold medals at the ongoing Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games to three after claiming the top spot in women’s discuss.
The 27-year old athlete toppled England’s Jade Lally, while Onyekwere’s compatriot, Obiageri Amaechi, took the bronze medal.
Onyekwere was among the 10 athletes disqualified for the Tokyo Olympic Games due to the ineptitude of the Nigerian officials who failed to conduct enough drug tests before the Games.
The 10 disqualified Nigerian track and field athletes at the time took to the streets of the Olympic Village to protest the decision.
Meanwhile, Nigeria has so far won three gold, one silver and four bronze medals since the commencement of the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham and are still hoping for more medals in track and field and wrestling before Monday when the Games would come to a close.
