Nigeria’s table tennis team will on Monday slug it out with India in semi finals at the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

The Nigerian side defeated hard-fighting Malaysian in the quarterfinals to secure their passage into the final four.

In men’s doubles, the duo of Olajide Omotayo and Bode Abiodun lost to Javen Choong and Qi Shen Wong by 6 – 11, 12 – 10, 12 – 10, 11 – 7 points.

Bode Abiodun lost to Shen Wong by 12 – 10, 14 – 12, 11 – 5 points but Africa’s number one player, Aruna Quadri however restored Nigeria’s hope by defeating Chee Feng Leong by 9 – 11, 11 – 6, 5 – 11, 5 – 11 points Olajide Omotayo also defeated Javen Choong by 8 – 11, 11 – 9, 7 – 11, 6 – 11 points.

Aruna however went ahead to seal victory for Nigeria with 11 – 7, 8 – 11, 5 – 11, 9 – 11 over Malaysia’s Javen Choong.
