As was reported on Monday evening, Cristiano Ronaldo returned to Manchester United’s Carrington training base for talks about his future on Tuesday.

Ronaldo missed United’s pre-season trip to Thailand and Australia citing family reasons, and is reportedly eager to leave the club this summer.

On Tuesday the 37-year-old was spotted arriving at Carrington along with his agent Jorge Mendes. The Portuguese forward is expected to hold talks with United manager Erik ten Hag and CEO Richard Arnold before a final decision on his future is made.

And curiously, the Manchester Evening News’ Rich Fay reported that Sir Alex Ferguson was also spotted arriving at Carrington and could play a part in the discussions.

Ronaldo of course enjoyed a very close relationship with Ferguson during his first spell at United, and the legendary manager played a crucial role in the five-time Ballon d’Or winner’s decision to return to Old Trafford last summer.

Atlético Madrid are the most recent club to be strongly linked with Ronaldo’s signature, and it will be interesting to see whether he can still be convinced to stay in Manchester.
