The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party for the 2023 elections, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has offered reasons why he rejected a former Lagos State Governor, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as his running mate on the platform of the Action Congress for the 2007 polls.

The former Vice President offered the reason for the rejection of Tinubu in an interview with ARISE TV on Friday.

Tinubu is the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress for the 2023 polls.

However, according to Abubakar, the former Lagos State Governor had wanted to be his running mate on the platform of the AC after it was carved out of the Alliance for Democracy for the 2007 elections.

He said his major plank for not accepting such a move was because it will be the same faith ticket.

Both Abubakar and Tinubu are Muslims.

The former Vice President told ARISE TV: “The Muslim-Muslim ticket has always been my fundamental disagreement.

“Nigeria is a multiethnic and multi-religious nation and there should be a religious balance in our leadership.”

Recall that for the 2023 polls, Tinubu has chosen another Muslim and former Borno State Governor, Senator Kashim Shettima, as his running mate.
