The immediate past Secretary to Bauchi State Government (SSG), Barrister Ibrahim Kashim, on Wednesday, emerged the winner of the state Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial primary election.

Announcing the winner of the primary election, held at the Zaranda Hotel in Bauchi, the returning officer for the state, Hassan Ahmed Grema, declared that despite being the sole aspirant in the election, Kashim polled a total of 655 votes out of the 656 accredited delegates, with one invalid vote.

According to Grema, “By the powers conferred on me by the constitution of the PDP, I hereby declare Barrister Kashim Ibrahim as the winner of the PDP gubernatorial ticket for the 2023 general elections.”

Accepting the mandate after his declaration, Kashim, who was the SSG until recently, said the race for the 2023 gubernatorial election in the state had just begun, declaring that PDP was already poised to win the next general election in the state.

He urged party faithful in the state to rally round and give him and the party the maximum support with a view to winning the 2023 general elections.

Kashim also called for unity among PDP members in the state to enable the party defeat others in the next round of elections.

“The contest has just begun for 2023. The PDP is ready to beat every other opposition.

“We must be a united party to be able to defeat others in the general elections. I am appealing to all of you to rally round and give the maximum support needed to win the general elections come 2023,” Kashim said.

He then expressed gratitude to the delegates for electing him as the gubernatorial candidate of the party and also commended the party for allowing a level playing field which led to the emergence of all its candidates for the general election without any rancour.

The former SSG then commended the state governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, for providing purposeful leadership that has transformed Bauchi State far above its peers.

He announced that his focus when he emerged the state governor next year was to consolidate on what Governor Mohammed had achieved in the state.

According to him, “Our focus when eventually elected in 2023 is to build on what has been done by our great political leader, Senator Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir who has demonstrated that good and effective leaders still abound in the country.”
