While Arsenal added six new players in the summer, largely to the spine of their side, they still look a little light in forward areas.

Gabriel Martinelli does not appear to have the trust of manager Mikel Arteta, while Nicolas Pepe has failed to set the world alight since his 72 million pound move in 2019, and will be down to the last two years of his contract come the summer.

As per Spanish outlet Fichajes, Mikel Arteta had specifically requested that the club explore a deal for Yeremy Pino, an exciting Spaniard currently playing for Unai Emery’s Villarreal side.

Arsenal fans will be familiar with the youngster, who came on in both legs of their Europa League semi-final defeat to the Yellow Submarine last season, and who has begun this campaign well. So far, the Spaniard has netted 2 goals and provided 3 assists for his side in La Liga and the Champions League, and at only 19, appears to have a bright future ahead of him.

However, any deal for Pino now seems dead in the water. The Spanish outfit announced today that they had reached an agreement with their teen sensation to extend his contract until 2027, in doing so removing the 35 million euro release clause that was thought to exist.

An official statement read: “Villarreal CF has reached a renewal agreement with Yeremy Pino, who will continue to wear the yellow jersey until June 30, 2027, so the Canarian attacker, whose contract with us ended in 2024, extends his contract with the club for three more seasons.”

This news will force Arsenal to look elsewhere for wide reinforcements, with the likes of Noa Lang previously linked with a move to the Emirates.
