The Delta House of Assembly Committee on Lands, on Thursday commended the state Ministry of Lands for exceeding its revenue target for 2021 fiscal year. The Chairman of the Committee, Mr Reuben Izeze, gave the commendation during the ministry’s budget defence meeting with the committee in Asaba. The chairman, while commending the ministry for its dedication and commitment towards  revenue generation, called for  reward  for the commissioner and the staff of the ministry  for their efforts.”To drive the reward process,  it would be necessary as government, to ensure that any ministry that exceeds its revenue target in any particular year, the excess should be channelled to the ministry to take care of their outstanding.“

The Ministry of Lands generates funds on behalf of the state government. This year, the ministry exceeded its revenue target by over 12 per cent.“As a committee, we will like to propose that once a ministry exceeds its target in any particular year, the excess should be channelled to the ministry to take care of their outstanding,” he said.Earlier, the Commissioner in charge of the ministry,Mrs Kate Oniawan told the Committee that between January and October this year, the ministry generated revenue in excess of N1.5 billion as against the N1.4 billion target for the 2021 fiscal.”The excess,  represents 112 per cent performance within the period under review.“

The review of the year 2021 budget performance is an indicator for a realistic budget proposal for year 2022.“In this direction, the ministry has an approved capital expenditure of N674 million only for 2021.“The sum of N508 million only was the actual release for the period; January to October, 2021, representing 75.4 per cent of the ministry’s approved budget,” Oniawan said.Oniawan also said that the ministry was proposing the same sum of N674 million in the 2022 fiscal year.
