Chelsea are closing in on a mega-money move for Romelu Lukaku – and Jorginho says the former Man Utd striker will be “worth it” if he reproduces his Inter Milan scoring form

Jorginho has given his verdict on Chelsea’s mega-money pursuit of Romelu Lukaku – saying the striker would be “worth it”.

Lukaku is reportedly set to undergo a medical on Sunday as he closes in on a near £100m return to the Premier League.

The Inter Milan striker is expected to sign a five-year deal with a contract worth around £195,000-a-week after tax, according to The Athletic.

That will make him the highest paid player at Stamford Bridge – and Jorginho says the former Manchester United man will be worth it after scoring 30-plus goals in each of his two seasons at the San Siro.

“A player like Lukaku, who has been doing great seasons, was a champion in Italy, for sure is a player who would contribute a lot,” he told TNT Sports.

“Everything that adds up would be worth it. Let’s see the next episodes.”

Lukaku is set to join the Champions League winners for £97.5m if he passes his medical, The Athletic reports.

He left Chelsea in 2014 without having scored a goal for the West London side – but after spells at Everton and United the 28-year-old has developed into one of Europe’s top strikers.

The Belgian forward said it had been a lifelong ambition to join Chelsea after he arrived at Stamford Bridge from Anderlecht in 2011.

Jorginho has spoken out on Romelu Lukaku's expected return to Chelsea

“I dreamed to play here since I was 10 years old. It was just what I was searching for,” he said.

“I used to watch Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink scoring goals and remember one against Manchester United, the volley at Old Trafford, and I decided I wanted to support this team.

“It’s amazing to arrive here in a big club with big ambition. It was just what I was searching for.”

But it didn’t go to plan as he left for Everton in 2014, following loan spells at Goodison Park and at West Brom.

After joining United from Everton in 2017, Lukaku scored 42 goals across 96 outings at United before being sold to Inter, who he fired to Serie A glory last season while scoring 30 times in all competitions.
