Aston Villa have been urged to snap up Southampton star James Ward-Prowse in this summer’s transfer window.
Villa are reportedly set to make a move for the England midfielder, having already agreed a club-record £33million deal to sign Emi Buendia from Norwich City.
Ward-Prowse has made more than 300 appearances for his boyhood club and was ever-present for Southampton in their 2020-21 season.
The 26-year-old just missed out on a place in England’s final 26-man squad for the upcoming European Championships.
Ward-Prowse scored eight Premier League goals in the campaign just ended, including two free kicks in a 4-3 win at Villa Park, while also providing seven assists.Mat Kendrick’s verdict on James Ward-Prowse after he was linked with Aston VillaWard-Prowse had an impressive season with Southampton
The Guardian reported: “Villa are understood to be keen to bolster their midfield and Ward-Prowse’s set-piece prowess, in particular, would boost their attacking armoury.
“That would prove especially useful if opponents continue to bring down Jack Grealish, who has been the most fouled player in the Premier League for each of the last two seasons.”
Our colleagues at HampshireLive have reported that Southampton have no plans to sell Ward-Prowse this summer.
