First-team physiotherapist Chris Morgan has responded on social media after criticism of Liverpool’s lengthy injury list this season
Liverpool physio Chris Morgan has responded to criticism on social media blaming him for the club’s lengthy injury list.
Centre-backs Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez had their campaigns ended in October and November respectively while Joel Matip suffered likewise last month.
Thiago Alcantara, Diogo Jota, Kostas Tsimikas, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Xherdan Shaqiri and Naby Keita have all been ruled out for a number of months at various stages of the season.
Jordan Henderson is awaiting the results of scans on a groin problem that is likely to sideline him for weeks, while Fabinho, James Milner and Caoimhin Kelleher missed Saturday’s Anfield derby defeat to Everton through injury.
The relentless fitness concerns have contributed to the Reds standing five points off a Champions League qualification berth and in danger of missing out on the top four.
Some Liverpool supporters on social media have pointed to the injury list coinciding with the appointment of Morgan who, having previously been at the club for a decade, returned last summer as first-team physiotherapist after four years away with spells at Crystal Palace and Arsenal.
And Morgan has used Twitter to dismiss suggestions his arrival is a determining factor.
He tweeted in the early hours of Tuesday morning: “Don’t be nasty. Don’t tweet nonsense. Don’t confuse correlation with causation.”
