Liverpool’s disastrous defence of their Premier League title continued on the weekend as they fell at home to Everton for the first time in 22 years. As if the result wasn’t disappointing enough, Paul Joyce from the Times has today reported that captain Jordan Henderson is set to miss several weeks with a groin injury, adding another name to the long list of Liverpool injuries.

The player has already had a scan and will certainly miss the second leg of their Champions League tie with RB Leipzig. Henderson has already missed time this season after recovering from a knee ligament injury in August.

The news will obviously be disappointing to Jurgen Klopp but also Gareth Southgate ahead of the upcoming World Cup Qualifiers against Poland, San Marino and Albania.

Henderson had been filing in at centre back to alleviate the crisis facing Jurgen Klopps team as they deal with long term injuries to Virgil Van Dijk, Josep Matip and Joe Gomez.

They will now be left with on loan Ozan Kabak, new signing Ben Davies and Nat Philips as they battle to keep pace with the Premier League top four.

Pressure will no doubt now increase to bring Fabinho back into the first team as soon as possible. The Brazilian international has missed the last three matches after picking up an injury in their defeat to Man City, possibly after being rushed back too soon. He is now back in training and Klopp said in his pre Merseyside Derby press conference that he is getting close to a return.

Liverpool will be hoping for a change of luck shortly as anymore injuries could derail their season totally
