At least 31 Boko Haram fighters were killed on Wednesday in Askira Uba town in Borno State by the Nigerian troops.

Nine gun trucks which conveyed the terrorists to the area were destroyed.

Troops of 28 Task Force Brigade, in Chibok Local Government Area, played a major role in searching and tracing the terrorists’ hideouts.

Nigerian Air Force aircraft shelled the Boko Haram gun trucks, while the ground troops pursued fleeing terrorists for elimination.

A military intelligence officer confirmed the operation.

“Aircraft were scrambled from Yola and Maiduguri within minutes after ground troops sent the signal.

“For the first time in years, the speed of response between the air taskforce and ground troops is unprecedented,” he told PRNigeria.

The officer added that mobile task teams have been very active in eliminating terrorists seen on sight.

Senator Ali Ndume (APC – Borno) said he was excited about the troops’ recent successes.

The Chairman, Senate Committee on Army commended the officers and men of the Armed Forces.

The lawmaker noted that the people are now confident about the Army’s timely response to situations.

“The military operation in Askira Uba was professionally executed as there was no loss of lives or property of the indigenes except the killings of the insurgents that attacked the town”, Ndume said.
