Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi, has said the Nigerian Railway Cooperation (NRC) would begin e-ticketing for Abuja-Kaduna train service next Wednesday.
On his Twitter handle yesterday, Amaechi asserted: “Yes, we have commenced test-run on the NRC’s e-ticketing platform, starting with the Abuja-Kaduna rail line. Next week, January 20, we’ll launch fully. Check it out and make bookings at: http://www.nrc.tps.ng.”
Since the launch of the Abuja-Kaduna corridor in 2016, Nigerians have been agitating for online booking to check racketeering and save passengers the stress of heading for the counter to purchase tickets.
About this time last year, the Federal Executive Council (FEC) approved a private firm, Secure IB, to spend N900 million on providing a secure automated fare collection solution for the NRC.
The minister had explained that the public-private partnership project would see the contractor getting 20 per cent of the accruing revenue.
The corporation’s Managing Director, Fidet Okhiria, also confirmed the new arrangement to reporters in Abuja.
