The non-appearance of the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva, caused the House of Representatives joint committee to adjourn sitting on Monday.

A Joint Committee on Petroleum resources (Upstream), Petroleum Resources (Downstream) and Gas Resources had invited the minister to defend the expenditure of the 2020 budget by his ministry and the defence of the 2021 estimate.

But he did not attend the session on Monday.

The joint committee, headed by Musa Sarki Adar (APC Sokoto), also summoned the Group Managing Director (GMD) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).

But after over one hour of waiting, Adar called for the adjournment of the session.

The lawmakers, who had gathered for the session, had to disperse.

Adar, who adjourned the session, said: “The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources sent a letter to us that he has been summoned by Mr. President. But that he will be with us soon.

“But having sat here for over 45 minutes, it’s evident that the minister is still with Mr. President and may not be with us today. So, I’m calling on members that we should postpone this meeting until when the minister is ready to come tomorrow or next time.”
