Adele made her debut as the host of Saturday Night Live, joined by musical guest H.E.R., which lead to huge ratings.
The October 24 episode scored a massive 5.0 rating, the third-highest rating SNL posted since Nielsen changed its methodology in October 2019.
The 5.0 rating was behind this month’s season premiere hosted by Chris Rock with musical guest Megan Thee Stallion (5.6) and last December’s episode hosted by Eddie Murphy, with musical guest Lizzo (6.7).
The episode drew in roughly 5 million viewers, with a 5.0 rating in live plus same day results from 44 markets metered by Nielsen Media Research.
It also pulled in a 2.4 rating in the all-important 18-49 adult demographic, in the 25 markets with local people meters.
The 5.0 rating is up 28% from the 3.9 rating average the show put up at this time last October, while the 2.4 18-49 rating was up 41% from the 1.7 rating last year.
SNL was the top show of the night on all the Big 4 networks, beating out Game 4 of the World Series on Fox, which drew a 4.7 rating.
The first three episodes of this season of SNL were the highest-watched episodes of that night.
The October 3 premiere drew in 8.235 million viewers, with 6.897 million viewers for the October 10 episode and 6.585 million viewers for the October 17 episode.
