Katsina State residents on Thursday, called for the engagement of local vigilantes to identify and eliminate bandits, kidnappers and cattle rustlers, who had been terrorising their communities.

They said the vigilantes, who were closer to the people, would respond to incidents at a short notice.

Urging the Federal Government to utilise the forests harbouring the bandits, the people equally called for deployment of more armed Agro Rangers personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps to enable farmers to gain access to their farms.

These were the highlights of a stakeholders’ meeting convened by the Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, and attended by the State Governor, Aminu Masari, royal fathers and residents of the state in Katsina, on Thursday.

According to a statement by the Director of Press and Public Relations, Ministry of Interior, Mohammed Manga, titled, ‘FG, North-West governors to collaborate to end banditry, other crimes’, the parley was in continuation of the FG’s fight against criminality in the North-West.
