ITV’s Loose Women have received 261 Ofcom complaints after the panel discussed Chrissy Teigen sharing baby loss photos on social media.
The debate was held on the show on October 1, just hours after Teigen shared the heartbreaking images.
In a post shared to her followers, Teigen wrote: “We are shocked and in the kind of deep pain you only hear about, the kind of pain we’ve never felt before. We were never able to stop the bleeding and give our baby the fluids he needed, despite bags and bags of blood transfusions. It just wasn’t enough.
“We never decide on our babies’ names until the last possible moment after they’re born, just before we leave the hospital. But we, for some reason, had started to call this little guy in my belly Jack. So he will always be Jack to us. Jack worked so hard to be a part of our little family, and he will be, forever.”
Panellists Carol McGiffin, Christine Lampard, Nadia Sawalha and Jane Moore spoke about the star’s loss, with Carol saying that the photos made her feel ‘uncomfortable.’
Carol said: “It’s absolutely tragic what’s happened to her.
“I looked at the pictures and I have to say I did feel a bit uncomfortable looking at them.
“I felt that I was intruding in a way, and I know she’s put them up there and she has a lot of followers and fans who care deeply about what’s going on with her whole pregnancy, but I felt that this is not really something I should be witnessing.
“I’m not judging her, and I’m not saying she was wrong to do it. But I just think it’s such a private thing. I kind of question whether there are some things that we shouldn’t have to share on social media.
“I don’t know, I don’t know where we’re going with all of this.”
Since the debate, the show has been hit with hundreds of Ofcom complaints.
Angry viewers also took to Twitter to share their thoughts, with one saying: “Bashing poor Chrissy Teigen who’s just had a miscarriage, so much for the sisterhood , bloody old harpies. #LooseWomen.”
Another wrote: “@loosewomen the baby’s name is Jack and his mother posted his birth photos. Same as any other mother, only Jack doesn’t get to come home. Who are you to question how appropriate that is? Disgusting, you should be ashamed!!!!”
“@loosewomen wanted to have a nice lunch break but in absolute rage. How can judge chrissy on what and how she shares HER OWN stories when she is going through probably the worst time in her life,” another angry viewer said.
“I don’t watch #LooseWomen but the fact that I’ve only just seen that they actually had a debate about the pictures Chrissy Teigen shared after she lost her baby is disgusting, Chrissy has probably helped so many people by sharing those, unlike them who just * behind a desk,” said another.
A spokesperson for the watchdog said it would not be releasing further updates on the number of complaints until its next weekly report.
The complaints will be assessed against broadcasting rules to see whether or not an investigation is necessary, the spokesperson said.
