Nicola Sturgeon said that people in the central belt of Scotland should avoid public transport unless “absolutely necessary” for the next two weeks.

The first minister said people in the five health board areas should only use public transport when travelling to work, school or for other unavoidable reasons.

She also asked them not to travel beyond their own health board area.

Ms Sturgeon also said Scotland would be toughening rules on face coverings, requiring them in areas such as staff canteens.

She also told retailers that they should return to measures used previously such as two-metre social distancing.
