The Rivers State Government has expressed its readiness to implement report and recommendations of an inter-ministerial committee set up to investigate the appearance (cause) of the soot, which ravaged Port Harcourt and its environs.
The state Commissioner for Energy and Natural Resources, Dr. Peter Medee, gave the hint when some youths paid him a visit at his office in Port Harcourt.
Medee recalled that the state was faced with serious environmental problems occasioned by illegal refining, popularly known as kpo fire.
He said, “The soot was not here when the gas flaring was here. But the soot is here today when artisanal refining or illegal refining started.
“The state governor is very determined and concerned. When the suit became a bigger problem in the state, he (Nyesom Wike) was able to set up an inter-ministerial committee to identify and study what could be the cause and the remedy.”
