Ten persons on Monday died while 18 others sustained injuries in multiple crashes in Anambra and Ogun states.
Four persons died and four injured in the Anambra incident, which involved three vehicles, a 911 Mercedez Benz truck, a Toyota Camry car and a Toyota Hiace bus, in the Obosi area of the state.
Six persons, including an elderly woman and a child, died while 14 were injured in Ogun in two crashes.
Eyewitnesses attributed the Anambra crash to brake failure.
Acting Sector Public Education Officer, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Kamal Musa confirmed the crash.
He said, “A multiple crash as a result of brake failure and loss of control involving a red 911 Mercedez Benz with registration number JJT 168 XG, a Toyota Camry car with registration number FST 122 DQ and a white Toyota Hiace bus belonging to Izuchukwu Motors with registration number ABN 430 YN was recorded at Obosi near Obosi police division along Onitsha-Owerri Road.”
Musa said 13 persons consisting of eight males and five females were involved in the crash.
Six persons died in two crashes in Ogun, while 14 were injured.
In one of the crashes, a bus somersaulted after a burst tyre due to speeding.
In another, a Toyota car skidded off the road and crashed into a residential building, killing the woman and the child.
Operatives of the state Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) evacuated the injured to Idera Hospital at the Gateway Trailer Park, Ogere, and Victory Hospital Ogere Remo while the dead were deposited at the FOS Mortuary, Ipara Remo.
The second crash occurred at Falawo, Epe Junction, Sagamu.
