Marvel star Kumail Nanjiani has reacted to news that Eternals will be delayed by nearly a year, saying it is a “responsible decision”.
Yesterday (September 23) it was confirmed that fellow MCU movie Black Widow has been pushed back to next May from its original planned October 2020 release.
As a result, Eternals is among the powerhouse’s other movies to have its own release date affected, with the anticipated ensemble outing moving from February 12, 2021 to November 5, 2021.
However, Nanjiani – who plays Kingo – has shown his support for the delay, tweeting: “Marvel made the right & responsible decision. There’s a pandemic. Nothing is more important than health & lives. I can’t tell ppl to go to a movie theater until I feel safe going to one.
“Take care of yourselves. I promise it’ll be worth the wait!”
Alongside Eternals’ delay, Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings has been pushed back from May 7, 2021 to July 9, 2021 as a result of the Black Widow delay.
On top of that, the release dates of Disney movies West Side Story and The King’s Man have also been affected.
Eternals is certainly anticipated among fans, with director Chloé Zhao recently teasing that she plans to go “further and bigger” than Avengers: Endgame with the movie.
“How much further and bigger can we go after [Avengers:] Endgame?” she said recently. “Because I’m not just making the film as a director. I’m making the film as a fan.”
