Ruben Neves has bid farewell to long-time teammate and close friend Diogo Jota after his transfer to Liverpool.
Jota completed a move away from Wolverhampton Wanderers on Friday night for a fee which could eventually rise to £45million.
The popular Portuguese forward netted 44 goals in 131 games for Wolves after joining the club, initially on loan, from Atletico Madrid in 2017.
He was instrumental in Wolves winning the Championship title and played a huge part in taking the club to an FA Cup semi-final and the Europa League quarter-finals during his stay at Molineux.
Jota joined Wolves at the same time as midfielder Neves, who has also been integral to the team’s rise under Nuno Espirito Santo.
Prior to joining Wolves, Jota spent a season on loan at FC Porto where he was a teammate of Neves and the pair are now fully-fledged internationals with their country.
And Neves, who has himself pledged his immediate future to Wolves recently, has reacted to Jota’s move to Anfield.
Posting a picture of the pair celebrating one of Jota’s three Wolves hat-tricks on Instagram, Neves said: “Four years. It was a pleasure.”
Jota is scheduled to make his first return to Molineux on March 13 next year.
