No fewer than three persons who were allegedly involved in selling a baby boy have been arrested and are under investigation by the Kano State Office of National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) for selling an abandoned baby boy to a woman simply identified as Loveth.
The suspects are the Fagge Commander of Hisbah, Jamilu Muhammed, ward head of Fagge and Loveth, the buyer.
Loveth who hails from Imo State had allegedly volunteered to buy the boy at a give-away price in order to take him to her mother in Imo State to nurse him.
Kano State Zonal Commandant of NAPTIP, Malam Shehu Umar, told journalists in Kano that the Hisbah Commander in Fagge local government area, Jamilu Mohammed; Fagge ward Head, and Mrs. Loveth are presently in NAPTIP’ s custody In Kano State.
He said the boy had already been retrieved from Loveth’s mother and returned to Kano State. Umar said after receiving reports on the matter, NAPTIP launched an investigation which to the arrest of Mrs. Loveth.
Although the Commandant said the suspects had been granted bail, he however explained that the case would attract five years’ imprisonment and a fine of N2 million on conviction.
Umar added that the agency had investigated two things: illegal adoption and sale of the minor to Loveth, who is of different faith with the victim.
