While there is one name that continues to dominate transfer talk at Old Trafford, Manchester United will be hopeful of multiple signings this summer.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side has already been able to shift Alexis Sanchez’s astronomical wages off the club’s accounts which could free up moves for potential arrivals – with many names linked with moves to Old Trafford in this transfer window.

A strong second half of the 2019/20 campaign indicates that the Red Devils will have a solid platform to work from next season but there remain a few areas for improvement.

Squad depth will be key to mounting a title challenge against the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City in the future.

For United, that could mean a summer of adding one or two big names as well as depth in key areas across the pitch.

Here are the latest Manchester United transfer rumours for Saturday August 22.

United could ‘hijack’ Gabriel deal
Highly-rate Lille defender Gabriel Magalhaes has reportedly undergone a medical with Arsenal and agreed a £27million move.

That is according to The Times who state that United and Napoli could yet hijack a deal before the Gunners make it a permanent move.

The report states that the 22-year-old has agreed a five-year deal with the North London club but the Red Devils may look to swoop in for the centre-back.

While United have been relatively stable in defence, the addition of Gabriel as a left-footed centre-back could add more options for Solskjaer.

Red Devils make £27m bid for Juventus winger
United have reportedly bid £27m for Juventus winger Douglas Costa who has been placed on the transfer market by Andrea Pirlo’s side.

Italian publication Corriere dello Sport report that United have submitted a £27m offer for the Brazilian winger who has previously been mentioned as a Jadon Sancho alternative.

Despite the Serie A giants allowing Costa to leave, there could be a sticking point on the price with Juventus wanting to recoup the £38m paid for him in 2018.

For United, they boast a relatively strong position given that Costa is unwanted by Juventus as the club looks to reduce their huge wage bill under new management.
